'Owl in the Twilight' is an attempt to write an instrumental in a slightly Brazilian flavor. It utilizes Brazilian percussion, floating chords played by piano and classical guitar, Rhodes and strings, a laid-back rhythm, and to tie it together, the call of the Pernambuco Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium Mooreorum), which appears in the beginning, middle, and end as a plaintive, brief, one-note whistle. The bird is a very critically endangered species, and I thought it provided context to the real meaning and message of the title. (Thanks to my friend in Rio, Marcos, who helped with the Portuguese translation of the title.)
