Nickie Harte Kelly Seattle area multi-instrumentalist and composer Peter Tutak returns with a synth-heavy instrumental release. This time, he incorporates a bit more jazz and world music into the mix, but still looks to classical composers for inspiration. He creatively uses a theremin-like patch to produce what would be the vocal lines of several of the pieces. I would love to hear these with a singer, as the lyrics are thoughtful and suit the music. A satisfying sophomore release. Favorite track: BROKEN ANIMALS.

I am sun in your shadow I am shade in the harshest light I am wind underneath your sail I am courage that never fails I am music. Do you hear me ? I am faith and devotion I am balm to your hue and cry I am harbor when tempest tossed I am vision when all is lost I am music. Do you hear me ? I am shore to your ocean I am star to your lonely sky I am flesh in your darkest dream I am forest and forest stream. I am music. Do you hear me ? Music and Lyrics ©Copyright 2015 Peter Tutak

Pretty birdie left to die inside a cage Pretty birdie doesn’t stand a chance of sympathy Bloody pitbull led to live a life of rage Never hopes to ever feel the hand of sympathy Captured orca, entertainment for the masses Starving horses pulling cannons for a war machine Mutilated tiger, mutilated bear, mutilated rhino Fueling man’s virility Mother lion shot to satisfy a trophy Elephants are butchered just to take their ivory Cocker spaniel left to fry inside an auto Rabbits blinded serving human vanity Puppy mills and kitten farms alike Mete no pardon in a profit-minded industry Both are fed to pythons, both fed to snakes Fueling, rekindling a base and ancient savagery Where is the justice for the creature at bay ? Who grants them mercy at the end of the day ? Where is the comfort for the soul of the wild ? Who is the savage ? Who is the beast ? Feather fin or fur it doesn’t make a difference All are battered by a rising tide of apathy Competition for a space upon the planet Puts the planet in a heightened state of jeopardy If an intellect is guided by its conscience If a civil mind is metered by its sanity Surely there would be a place where every creature Feels the care of what we call ‘humanity’ Who forged the irons for a world so defiled ? Where is the comfort for the soul of the wild ? Where is the justice for the creature at bay ? Who is the savage ? Who is the beast ? Music and Lyrics ©2017 Peter Tutak. All Rights Reserved.

House in the mirror, house that I never called ‘home’ House in the mirror, place where I found myself alone Set on the hillside, looking at sky never blue Set with a garden, scented by flowers I never grew Cheap little fireplace, trussed in a Christmas display Sweet little love songs never again to see the day Home for the hopeful, rooms where we planned out our life House in the mirror, house where I’d land high and dry Caught in the spotlight, everyone asking what went wrong Deer in the headlights, deaf to the warning and horn Sold on a future, bound in a dream not to fly House in the mirror, house where that dream came to die. Accept this light, Creator. Accept this sound, my Lord. Accept this prayer surrendered to You All I once was, earthbound and vain, shackled, selfish, weak, and lost all I have been, returned to dust But this heart, This soul, This love I return to You. Cast away, I’m a cork afloat Left to fend in a leaky boat Wave on wave, whitecap and wind My company, the albatross, the circling fin Clouds of silk in a brilliant sky Choking salt in a tortured sigh None but this eternal sea My bane and buoy, my melody A distant isle A verdant lea A raincloud crowning its peak This fickle swell Denying me The rescue I seek I watch it pass In slow parade To rest beyond the horizon My hope denied This endless ride Becomes a pallet to die on Words and Music are Copyright ©2021 by Peter Tutak. about

‘Nordique’ is my second collection of INSTRUMENTAL songwriting demos. While I continue to write mostly in the same 1970s/80s ‘classic progressive rock’ style as I did on my first collection released in 2021 (“Winter in Bloom”), I have also decided to venture into incorporating some jazzier and world-music influences in my work. On this collection, I've also started using a theremin-like synth patch to outline a vocal line for a female vocalist. In any event, I hope you enjoy what I’ve come up with.

All compositions are original, and all instruments are performed by myself, except where noted. All mistakes are attributable to myself, and no one else. Mea Culpa.

Lyrics, where they exist, will be published here under each song. Although there are no vocals, the vocal line may be heard in the theremin or synth upfront in the mix.
